Oh male child.I admire this series. As y'all can see at the bottom of this review, I have been looking forrad to its continuation for well over a year. In The Sister, the sixth installment in
The Boss serial, you can expect a lot of move in regards to romantic, family, and work relationships. Some I am looking forrard to continuing and some make me very, very apprehensive.Things that defenseless me off baby-sit: (Seriously these are huge spoilers. Don't click on this spoiler unless you lot have already read the volume.)
(view spoiler)[-Sophie sure tin can spend coin now. No reservations. $20K shopping sprees, offering to pay for transplant surgeries, giving away her mag. Damn. In a nutshell, she moves up from "the working class" to "the i% elite" in this book. Equally much as her internal dialogue suggests otherwise, it has happened. At least she'south not complaining near marrying into wealth anymore...
-The tone of the erotic scenes go from sensual to more playful in my opinion. They are way too excited with each other versus the sexy, intimate chemistry I e'er look forward to reading from Ms. Barnette. I am probably not maxim it correct merely the deep emotional connection during intimacy is what drew me to this series and it kinda turned me off to see them bouncing on their heels, laughing, bantering, etc.
-El-Mudad is formally introduced every bit a permanent fixture in Sophie and Neil'due south human relationship. I can bargain with this and really applaud Ms. Barnette for showcasing a working triad merely Sophie and Neil's fourth dimension alone appears to exist negatively impacted when El-Mudad is absent and I can't bargain with that. Their words say otherwise but their sex scene after El-Mudad went abode left me with a sense of foreboding. Yes, I know he came back.
-The father problems persist. Seriously Sophie... Although I did quite similar the incorporation of Sophie'south one-half siblings.
-The fact that Sophie tin't donate her kidney to her half sister because she is a type Two diabetic came totally out of left field. Wouldn't she take yeast infections and UTI's if she was an untreated diabetic... and with their sex life? Hmmm... No, I don't want to read about yeast infections and UTI's but if you're going to integrate a very nonfiction status into your fiction then symptoms of said status are bound to come up.
-And for God's sake, volition authors delight end sharing their political viewpoints through their characters. Y'all all have a weblog or webpage to post your own opinions on. Stop bringing information technology into your fiction. Ms. Barnette did this but not to the extent that would warrant this reaction from me. It was just the final straw and so to speak. I have seen many authors do this in recent new releases and it is a huge pet peeve of mine and I'1000 ill of it. Rant over. (hide spoiler)]
Yes, I know that was a whole lot of negatives. When you are passionate and protective near your favorite characters/series, and then whatsoever disappointment is going to be equally passionate. I don't know how these authors practice it. To keep a story moving nonrepetitively while keeping every fan happy is impossible. I gave this book an extra star just for that. I could see Ms. Barnette try to keep the fabric fresh in order to forbid colorlessness but it didn't quite work for me personally. I'thou not done with this series by a long shot. I've happily made it this far - in that location was bound to be an installment that didn't click with me. I'm already looking frontward to the adjacent ane. There's nowhere to get merely up!
My favorite quote:
"Expectations sometimes have that dismal effect on reality." (Truthful story!)

I've been putting off writing this review because I have adverse feelings toward this book.

I admire Jenny's manner, it'due south unique considering she's very good at describing sexual practice scenes and at making a perfect analysis of the characters' behavior.

4 STARS REVIEWI've been putting off writing this review considering I have adverse feelings toward this book.
First things start, I'm a huge fan of The Boss series, I've read the first v books a lot of times and I'yard so in love with Neil. I adore Jenny'southward mode, information technology's unique because she's very adept at describing sex scenes and at making a perfect assay of the characters' beliefs.
***WHAT I LOVE***
I adore nigh of the scenes in this novel, peculiarly the sexual ones (I have a dirty heed, I know) and I am fascinated past how Sophie acts with her niggling stepsister.
Olivia is getting older and she is so cute, Neil and Sophie are very good at taking care of her, they are and so fond of her.
And that'south all, at that place are other things that makenme so happy, but I don't want to spoiler.
***WHAT I DON'T Similar***
In this installment of the Dominate Series, Neil, Sophie and El-Mudad decide to take their relationship a pace further. They find out that they're in beloved with each other and their desire is to live together.
So, I am okay with Neil and Sophie having threesomes, foursomes and things similar that, but I don't like that they're both in love with El Mudad.
What I have always loved about this series is the strong bond between Neil and Sophie, how much the love each other. Their connectedness runs then deep and they're D/S human relationship is wonderful. I still remember how sugariness was the spousal relationship proposal and all the scenes where they cuddled and hugged and kissed each other.
In this book, however, they don't kiss so frequently, their physical relationship is not that strong and it's something that I don't like. What I truly dislike is that El-Mudad is now Sophie's "Monsieur" and It just doesn't experience right to me. It has always been something special between Neil and Sophie, something that strengthens and enriches their relationship. But now that there'south El-Mudad information technology feels less special, I don't know.
***CONCLUSIONS***
So, what tin can I say? I similar this book, I was really looking forwards to read it and I am not disappointed. I hope I proved my point, it's not that I don't accept threesome, but I wasn't expecting this huge modify to happen in Neil and Sophie's marriage.
I know will have time to get used to it while waiting for "The Boyfriend " to come out side by side year.

The last book was non my favorite, simply I'll say I would take it over this one. I mean, what just happened?? This book tears autonomously everything that was great with Neil and Sophie.
This whole thing with El-Mudad is just unnecessary. It isn't as if 3 way relationships offend me, it'south just that it feels wrong between these two. Oh the excitement...oh the thwarting. The last volume was not my favorite, but I'll say I would have it over this i. I mean, what merely happened?? This volume tears apart everything that was great with Neil and Sophie.
This whole thing with El-Mudad is just unnecessary. Information technology isn't as if iii way relationships offend me, information technology's just that it feels wrong betwixt these two. Ever since he came in the film, I've had a nagging feeling that information technology isn't going to terminate well. Neil is manner too into him to exist fair to Sophie and Sophie is too like "whatever" afterwards almost losing him for me to believe it'southward ok. Their dynamic as a couple already feels common cold and impersonal.
Another annoying function was her chore complaints. They should've ended in chapter 3! This book makes Sophie seem weak to the max and information technology didn't wait good on her.
So I gave information technology ii stars because I love these two, but I can't say I'chiliad as well excited nor the next book because I don't intendance for the turn this series has taken.

I fell into reading Jenny Trout (also known as Abigail Barnette) when she was writing a scathing, hilarious chapter by chapter review of Fifty Shades of Gray (and so the sequels) on her blog. So I have been going back and forth on writing a book review near annihilation in the erotica genre. It has not really been my thing, y'know?I brutal into reading Jenny Trout (besides known as Abigail Barnette) when she was writing a scathing, hilarious chapter by chapter review of Fifty Shades of Gray (so the sequels) on her weblog. It is fair to say that these reviews were the closest thing to erotica I accept ever intentionally read so I learned a lot forth the way. In that location was the critique of the writing, the themes, the presentation of a BDSM lifestyle and the line between salubrious and calumniating relationships, expensive cars, earth building, sexuality, and feminism. I cannot call back if she issued herself the claiming or someone else did, but she set out to write a book that was the ultimate takedown of Fifty Shades - the same themes (rich older human being/younger contained woman; romance; BDSM) but written from a thoughtful, considered, feminist perspective. So I read The Boss. And and so the Girlfriend, The Bride, The Ex, and The Baby (over the years - not at all at once). This is the latest.
I keep coming back to these books that are not a genre I typically read considering I appreciate what the author is doing. They are but then damn refreshing because they do not breeze past the difficult details of life. They do not fall into any tropes that were not function of the original challenge. The books have characters I want to keep in touch on with. I cannot remember a time that I have always read a sex scene that was not written by a man or by an excessively pocket-sized woman - and that is refreshing, educational, and hot.
I am non sure if I go on pointing out that I don't read erotica because I am claiming some sort of social media modesty or because I am embarrassed to be associated with the stereotype of the genre. If the genre becomes more like this series, I should probably get over myself. In the mean fourth dimension, I have no idea how to put a star rating on it all.

Neil and El-Mudad were carrying on backside Sophie's dorsum whilst she was working and in a I have to say that I enjoyed 'the boss' series merely the residuum of the serial has degenerated and get fake. In the case of Sophie and Niel's relationship with El-Mudad the were no ground rules or boundaries ready to protect the matrimony. Triangles accept pointy edges and without the basis rules someone always gets "stabbed" or falls also deeply for another partner ruining everything and I speak from feel.
Neil and El-Mudad were carrying on behind Sophie's dorsum whilst she was working and in a threesome this is CHEATING and frowned upon, (Both males had cheating problems - hence hypocrisy). Information technology'due south only supposed to happen when they are together. Never one time did the then chosen feminist heroine call them out on it or their misogynistic BS. eg: fellatio is a learned skill (were non born with it) and through feel and guidance from the recipient great skill tin can exist achieved and is Not gender based. Never has been, so for Sophie to feel inadequate is also BS and the males fabricated her so, disempowering her and negating her - a truthful feminist would have been enraged over this.
The jealousy factor is also a bone of contention, Neil is such a hypocrite. He did non want Sophie talking to El-Mudad without his permission withal he is in contact with him regularly and crossing the line continually eg. giving ownership of Sophie to El-Mudad without a discussion or her consent, oh a surprise! yeh correct! In 'The Boyfriend' whilst on the yacht, El-Mudad starts a sexual run into with Sophie without Neil and he has something to say nearly it equally he is jealous, yet what has he been doing all along? Hypocrisy in one case over again, but the author never addresses these issues leaving a true and deep give-and-take wanting.
Sophie supposedly feels no jealousy when in actual fact jealousy is a biological response to a love bond and is in the DNA to protect that bail. It is primal and is based in procreation and the protection of the species, so for Sophie but to ignore or be ok with the males flagrant breaches and misogyny later going through so much to save Neil's life and her marriage, is only ridiculous and shows the authors lack of understanding of biology and feminism. She needs to do some more than research! Notation also that Sophie stayed true-blue to Neil whist he was in the' psyche centre' and only had platonic relations with El-Mudad and what was one of the get-go questions he asked her - did she practice it with El-Mudad and this after he had sent him to her. Raging jealousy with serious issues/hypocrisy!
The sex scenes were OK simply when Neil split Sophie'due south skin with the pikestaff making her bleed and El-Mudad gouged her back and drew claret, the author lost my respect.
No feminist would ever let this to happen to her, such degradation is abhorrent and is dreadful misogynistic sadism!!! The writer reduced Sophie to nix simply a 'hurting slut' - so disempowering! Even in BDSM they are frowned upon. Besides annoying was the fact that these painful and long lasting scars were never mentioned again as if they miraculously healed overnight, what total BS.
The books are full of flaws and if they were fantasy, no worries, but they are not as they enter the realm of realism and broach some very real and serious issues in the man status. I just wish they had been handled differently with more than respect to that man condition.

As far as El-Mudad, Sophie and Neil... yeah I don't know if I'g feeling information technology. I came into this series with a beloved for Sophie and Neil'south love and bringing in a tertiary person ju I wanted to love this book. I really did. and I did enjoy information technology! I enjoyed the dynamic between Sophie, Sasha, Susan and Molly. AND the fact that Sophie finally admitted to herself that she didn't want to exist in Style anymore and gave it to Deja, and that she finally understood that she didn't have to experience guilt about what she has.
Equally far as El-Mudad, Sophie and Neil... yeah I don't know if I'm feeling it. I came into this series with a honey for Sophie and Neil'due south love and bringing in a tertiary person just doesn't allow focus on Sophie and Neil. I don't know, I don't necessarily hate it or even dislike it. The whole polygamy aspect doesn't bother me. Plus I Dearest El-Mudad. Maybe if that had been the initial plot I wouldn't be on the fence about it. I do capeesh the respect that all three have for each other through it all though. After a hiatus of more than three years, I've returned to The Dominate serial. I bought this (and #7, The Boyfriend) when they were released, but somehow didn't get to them. Early, it was because I was still reeling from the events of The Babe and wasn't ready for more potential heart-rending. Later, buried other under books. But because I'm making information technology a priority to wrap up partial series in my queue, hither I am.And I'yard vaguely disappointed by my mixed reaction.
If I were judging this on the tin-we-brand-a-thruple-piece of work storyline with El-Mudad, I loved information technology, but that came out of left field for me. I of my major issues with The Baby was that past the finish of the book, afterwards all El-Mudad had done for Sophie in her times of trouble, he felt forgotten about--he had declared his intention to be exclusive with them, if they were on lath, but and so other things happened (the entire plot!) and he got put on concur. I was thrown when in that location was no sort of closure for him.
Jump to this book, where they're talking about how the final year has brought them all closer together, and I just don't see it, he was barely a presence in the last book and now he's a central figure in their lives. Which I'd similar, polyamory isn't something y'all see explored seriously in romance or erotica, it's often a setup for sexy hijinks only the emotions involved are relegated to the background or ignored entirely. And this book is total of emotion on that score.
The other major plot thread, the titular sister(s) that come into Sophie's life, I liked less. It felt rushed and kind of shallow, how awkward and antagonistic everyone just Molly was, while Molly was the super adorable teenage charmer for Sophie to instantly autumn in love with. That isn't to say Sophie didn't experience character growth from information technology--she realized she didn't accept to justify her anger about her father'south abandonment, that she didn't demand anyone's permission to feel how she felt, and that's definitely something I can empathise with (as I'thousand certain many other women can.) Merely getting there felt trite.
On the other hand, in Sophie'due south professional life, Deja'south blow-upwards at her was long overdue, with the story well-paved with hints that it was coming. Sophie's sudden decision to give up her position felt both like something she would absolutely exercise (she's been known to make impulsive decisions, fifty-fifty if she was deliberately taking her time pondering the kidney donation elsewhere in this book) and the culmination of her internal struggle with finding herself filthy rich, an result threaded throughout this serial.
So I liked information technology, except when I didn't. Because I'k such a sucker for El-Mudad, he'southward the biggest softie and I honey him, I'm excited to finally become to The Boyfriend next, simply also wary of how messy Sophie's life has become and what that means for the plot moving frontward. Considering I don't recall this book was as good as previous entries in the series, and I'thou hoping that downward trend won't continue.

Now th
I'grand not sure nigh the rating on this i, I am tempted to get a fleck lower, simply thinking about the series as a whole, I can't help but continue the rating in the iv-five stars range. But before I get into it permit me just ask this: who edited this book ("The Baby" too)? I hope they didn't edit "The Boyfriend"as well because I've been bellyaching plenty. Every single adverb of time was secluded between commas and it made reading some sentences so freaking abrasive. There is such a thing as besides many commas! At present that that's out of the way, I read "The Sister" way slower than the other books. Part because I started piece of work once more, part because I didn't enjoy it as much. I am glad that my worst fears well-nigh what 'sister' this book might mean wasn't the instance and I'thou so happy Emir is now El-Mudad, simply I simply couldn't get so much into it.
Everyone was great as always, I'm happy that Sophie finally came to terms with some things and that she is closer to take what her life and how she had inverse. I'm glad Neil is as supportive as ever and I'thousand sure happy El-Mudad is now playing a bigger role in their lives. I've been crazy almost him since that kickoff encounter in France.
What this book lacked, from my point of view, was the sexual activity. At that place were plenty of scenes and at the same time not enough, if that makes whatever sense. In that location wasn't as much passion and I almost dreaded reading them. In a way that is understandable, with everything that's going on there are new rules and they have a fashion to go until things fully fall in place.
I wasn't crazy nearly the sisters. Well, Molly was pretty cool, Susan was meh, and we didn't become to see Renee, so as far every bit that goes, they were okay. I estimate. I recollect I share Neil'due south feelings on the matter more than than Sophie's. (view spoiler)[And speaking of Sophie, her diabetes was a shock, didn't see it coming, just I was also kinda relieved she couldn't donate her kidney. I know that would have been the correct affair to exercise, and I praise her for really wanting to go through with it, only I can't shake off the 'wouldn't have contacted yous otherwise' part. It seems a chip cruel and opportunistic to me. (hibernate spoiler)]
Overall the sixth office of the serial was okay, non the most exciting, but definitely not to be skipped.

I think Abigail\Jenny is a very natural writer, she'south painting reality so easily, information technology's hard o believe her characters are non real. I see a lot of important topics even beingness a girl from a different office of the earth. And I'g very thankful that I was laughing or intrigued this volume more than while reading other parts of the story. Though I'm not certain if I similar how much they're dedicting to their relationships with El-Mudad, it'due south just my personal feeling (crusade I'm jeauous instead of them ha-ha).
But as a person who cried my guts out while reading, for example, The Baby or The Girlfriend, I was in peace with their pain. Pain and their choices. I can't just not read more (every bit yous know now, The Boyfriend book is coming in 2018). Merely I think the author plays with reader past giving some... non hints, but opeping windows for some things... Looks merely similar teasing. I hateful I really found my peace, merely then side by side book is appear, so adjacent, and you can't stop being masochistic.

I am then in love with Sophie and Neil, I cannot even depict how much of my eye is given to them. How much I understood reading and rereading Boss Series. It'south merely hard to alive with is sometimes. Merely it'south what life is. Doomed to exist in letterings on stupid colorful cups while beingness full truth.

I do corroborate of the primary plot with Sophie and her other family, and I want to run into how they evolve their relationships as the series continues. It was a pleasant storyline that gently piqued my interest. I do dear Neil and Sophie's interaction and care for Olivia and that there is a happier medium with Valerie. However, some of Sophie's personal life irked me. She seemed weaker in this serial and she really neglected her friendships. It didn't sit well with me.

Information technology was pretty well-written, for the near part believably so despite it being the typical, cliched "billionaire falls for a hot ingenue" at the very cadre of the story.
